Not having ever been married or planned a wedding I’m not talking from firsthand experience, but I have had experience at weddings of my partner’s family, as well as the usual family functions and I therefore imagine one of the most stressful parts of any wedding celebration is dealing with guests you don’t like.

Please visit this link for more wedding planning information.

It’s traditional for you not to like or get along with your in-laws and while this isn’t always the case, there are varying degrees of dislike when you merge two families. For reasons which may or may not be clear to everyone, your fiancée’s mother gets on your nerves when she criticises every event she didn’t organise, your fiancée’s father embarrasses himself and everyone else when he has a few drinks and shares (forces) his opinion with the entire room, and then there are the in-laws who have personal hygiene issues and you don’t want them coming anywhere near your perfect white dress.

So how did you deal with/plan to deal with, family, in-laws or guests at your wedding who you don’t like? Did you just try and avoid them, grin and bear it, or make the most of the fact that your parents were picking up the bar tab?

You’re either into children or you’re not – they either cry immediately when left in your care or you end up being the cool ‘aunt’ or ‘uncle’ that they always want to babysit them. But when planning your wedding you have to think about a lot more than just whether you and your fiancée like kids because there is a lot of extra effort involved in making your wedding kid friendly.

And if you do decide to invite kids to your wedding, you have to make sure they are entertained and feel just as welcome as all the other guests so they need their own menu, maybe games or colouring books and a dedicated bridesmaid or groomsman to keep an eye on them and keep them out of trouble.

And if you’re not inviting little ones to your wedding, you are probably going have to explain why to a few of their parents who will RSVP for their kids, even though they weren’t on the invitation.

So what did you do/are planning to do, on your big day, was it easier just to say yes to the ankle bitters or put a blanket ban on sticky fingers and screaming during the ceremony?

What do we do about children in limos? I don’t mean high school students on their prom night, that’s another story, I mean young kids, under teens, riding in limos with their parents on a night out, riding with their Aunts and Uncles in a wedding limo because they are the flower girl or page boy.

Are they being exposed to drinking, to a partying lifestyle when they should just be left to be children? If they’re in a wedding limo, aren’t the bride and groom enjoying a glass of champagne, not to mention the bridesmaids and groomsmen too? While their family may have a few drinks around the kids at home, a limo feels like a whole other world and things could be done and said without regard for little ears.

Maybe in these situations they should hire a kid friendly limo and have an adult who will remember that even though other rules seem not to apply when riding in a limo, kids can still be impressionable. After all a limo ride is such a unique experience the kids will remember it for a long time to come, the good and the bad.
