Does size matter? It’s the age old question isn’t it, but I think we can answer it here if we put our heads together, don’t you? What do you think – is a smaller limousine more romantic because of the intimate atmosphere it creates, or is a big 20 seater party bus just as romantic if the company is right?

You can see why people would think that a smaller, more intimate limousine is better for creating a romantic atmosphere as you have little choice but to sit right next to your partner and the smaller interior of the limousine can make you feel more private and secluded – less cavernous shall we say?

But then there is the mood lighting which you can play with in the larger super stretch limousines which you don’t often get in the smaller ones. Plus there is plenty of room to stretch out in a larger limousine, not to mention you can feel like you’re further away from the chauffeur and therefore more private.

So is the size debate just a personal preference then?

In the limo industry there’s also competetion in who’s top of the first page when customers search for “limo hire” and limobroker.co.uk have dominated the 1st position for over 2 years running… Until Now!

Recently a website has managed to knocked Limobroker.co.uk off the top position to take 1st. www.5StarLimos.co.uk has been around since 2003, making the site over 2 years older than limo broker..

Will this be a long term result for 5 Star Limos?

Every bride wants to look gorgeous on her wedding day and usually that means going to the gym everyday in the year leading up to the wedding and switching to low fat milk and cutting out chocolate.

But have you heard about the latest trend in the pursuit of stunning wedding photos? Some brides are simply buying an affordable wedding dress off the rack and spending the thousands of dollars they saved on their dress on having plastic surgery!

They rationalise it I suppose by the fact that having their breast enhanced, their thighs slimmed down or their lips or bum plumped up, will enhance their appearance more than even the most expensive wedding dress could. We all have things we would love to change about ourselves and while I would consider teeth whitening or a fake tan as being the most drastic plastic surgery I would ever undergo before my wedding, to each her own I suppose.

Crackdown on ‘pervert’ limo drivers..

SEX offenders are taking jobs as limousine chauffeurs so they can target young girls, Wales’ top public road transport official claimed today.

Traffic Commissioner Nick Jones said sting operations revealed drivers who were on the sex offenders’ register.

Mr Jones said: “The police and VOSA (Vehicle Operator and Standards Agency) have told me that when they undertake checks on stretch limousines, very often they find people on the sex offenders’ register.

“Stretch limousines have become popular for end-of-term proms, so you get young girls aged 14 to 15. Sometimes they are plied with alcohol, and sometimes the drivers choose to be drivers because it is an opportunity to have a pop at the girls. It’s a cause for concern.”

Mr Jones spoke to the Echo as he launched a crackdown on the vehicles as their popularity soars in South Wales.

He said a safety campaign in the US five years ago, which included tighter regulation and safety checks, forced many stretch limousines off American roads. He fears some were shipped to Britain where the novelty value of hiring a limousine for the night was just starting to kick off.

“A lot of vehicles are inherently dangerous. Many people have chosen to operate outside the law,” said Mr Jones.

“Across England and Wales 10 years ago there were four stretch limousines. Now one senior policeman has told me there are 40,000. A lot are unregulated and illegal.

“A large number are here because they were deemed unsafe to run in America.”

He said the current lack of regulation could even prove tempting to money launderers who could buy into limousine businesses.

He added that some of the vehicles were not properly insured and had not undergone road safety checks.

Mr Jones said: “There is legislation relating to private hire vehicles and taxis which is undertaken by local authorities and there are regulations relating to public service vehicles which are undertaken by traffic commissioners. But stretch limousines are neither one nor the other. The law is so complicated.”

Mr Jones is taking the UK lead on studying limousine regulation and his findings could form part of a shake-up in transport laws.

Vehicles carrying up to eight passengers should be licensed by councils, whereas limos with bigger capacities fall under Mr Jones’ responsibility.

The plans were welcomed by limo operator Richard Singleton, of Coychurch, Bridgend, who has 15 vehicles in his fleet, Singleton’s Limousines.

He said today: “All our drivers go through Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks because we don’t want anyone who has been convicted, especially sex offenders.

“When they apply we tell them they will be checked. You would be surprised how many say they don’t want the job because they know something will flash up.

“We don’t want any paedophiles dealing with kids, and kids are 50% of our business.”

Mr Singleton also welcomed the crackdown on rogue companies, saying: “It will get all the rubbish cars off the road.”

South Wales Police’s head of public protection, Detective Superintendent Martyn Jones, said: “Under Government legislation there are vetting processes in place in relation to the licensing of taxi drivers.

“When a taxi driver applies for a licence they are subject to Criminal Records Bureau checks, carried out by the relevant police force, whereby previous convictions and any relevant information is disclosed to licensing authorities who decide whether drivers are suitable.

“South Wales Police also carry out regular operations and checks to target potential unlicensed taxi drivers in conjunction with local authorities and Trading Standards and take positive action where drivers are found to be unlicensed.

“We would always urge passengers to use reputable, licensed companies.”

While there are fire engine limousines for hire and there are many limousines which will claim to heat up your party, few limousine hire companies actually want to see their limousines engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, the Carmel Fire Department attended to this very situation last week, as a limousine belonging to a local limo hire company caught fire at a gas station.

At around three in the afternoon, the fire engines – the ones with the water hoses not the disco lights – were called to a gas station where they found a black limousine smoking heavily and flames visible from underneath the vehicle. The limousine was sitting close to the gas pumps, but not under the canopy which protects the customers from bad weather as they fill up their tanks. Because the smoking limousine was so close to the gas pumps, there was also an ambulance on the scene.

The fire crew worked quickly in their protective gear, and were able to extinguish the fire with a large hose from their fire engine. The limousine chauffeur later explained that he had pulled in the service station for fuel and stopped just before the pumps to wait for the vehicle in front to leave.

When the chauffeur turned off his limousine, he smelled smoke and immediately got out and went to get help. Fortunately there were not passengers, and no one else in the limousine at the time. A mechanic who works for the limo hire company suspects that it may have been a bad catalytic converter which started the fire.

No one was injured in this incident, and it was simply made worse by the fact that the fire started at a gas station with so much dangerous fuel around. Luckily the chauffeur acted quickly and the fire fighters were able to control and extinguish the fire before anyone was hurt.

For more information about hiring a fire engine limousine to heat up your night, or a quick thinking and level headed chauffeur, contact one of the limo hire companies listed on this site.

We all know we’re not allowed to talk on the phone while we’re driving, and this is probably one of the reasons you hire a limousine to get you to a business meeting – so you can make some last minute phone calls on the way.

But what about our chauffeurs? We know they’re not allowed to talk on the phone either, but some of them do use Bluetooth or hands free systems, so as passengers are we happy with this?

We’ve all been in the car with someone who likes the radio up loud, or with a screaming child and even though both hands are on the wheel, it can be hard to concentrate. So should chauffeurs, especially those driving the larger, super stretch limos, be allowed to divert their attention from the road, even minimally.

Chauffeurs need all of their concentration to negotiate traffic, ensure the ride is smooth for passengers and make sure that their extra large vehicle is doing exactly what they are asking it to do. So should there be additional licensing tests, special ‘phone conversation’ driving tests to ensure that while a chauffeur has all of the necessary training, they are not compromising that by talking on the phone.

The results from a recent Australian crash test has revealed that smaller cars have a poor safety component and that small cars, particularly small Australian made cars, will cause more damage to the driver in an accident.

But didn’t we already know this? I remember when I first started driving and my dad would only let me drive in his (huge) station wagon. His reasoning was that if I was in an accident (which I never have been, ten years on) there would be more car around me to protect me and the car would crumple before I did.

While I’m not sure if this was just my dad’s way of not letting me drive his new car, disguised as parenting advice but it makes sense to me. The same way it makes sense that if you have an accident on a motorbike, as compared to in a car, you will be more beat up after the motorbike crash.

Does this logic work for you?
